# notespace > notespace is a note store for AI agents, served as a remote MCP server. Assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Grok connect to it to save, search (keyword and semantic, including Chinese), link and version Markdown notes across conversations. People do not edit notes directly; they ask their assistant. ## Connect - MCP endpoint (all spaces the user grants): https://notespace.sh/mcp - MCP endpoint locked to one space: https://notespace.sh/s/{space}/mcp - Transport: Streamable HTTP. Protocol revisions 2025-11-25 and 2026-07-28. - Auth: OAuth 2.1 (PKCE; client ID metadata documents or dynamic client registration). Discovery: https://notespace.sh/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp - Scripts and bots: `Authorization: Bearer ` created on the account page. - Setup steps for each app (Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, OpenAI Dots, Codex, Grok, Grok Bot, Muse, xAI API): https://notespace.sh/connect - Accounts: open sign-up at https://notespace.sh/signup. Sign in: https://notespace.sh/login ## Tools - overview: spaces, folder tree, recent changes, skill versions. Call first. - get_skill: "guide" (how to use these tools) or "methodology" (how this space is organized, with enforced rules). - find_notes: browse a folder or search (mode hybrid | keyword | semantic); filters for prefix, metadata, links_to, dangling. - get_notes: read up to 20 notes or single sections ("path#Heading"); outline and links on request. - note_history: list or read old versions. - save_notes, edit_notes, move_notes, delete_notes: batched, atomic writes with optimistic versioning. - restore_note: undelete or roll back. - change_methodology: ask the user to change a space's methodology; applies only after they confirm. - create_space, describe_space: ask the user to add a space or change its description; applies only after they confirm. ## Concepts - Spaces: separate collections (e.g. work, personal). Access is granted per space, read or write. - Notes: Markdown with a path, title, JSON metadata, version and optional lock. Ids (n_…) never change. - Export: the owner can download every space as a zip of Markdown files (folders follow note paths, metadata as frontmatter) from the account page. - Links: [[path]], [[name]] or [[n_id]] within a space; backlinks are tracked and moves rewrite links. - Methodologies: per-space skills (karpathy-llm-wiki, para, zettelkasten, or the user's own) that may lock folders and require metadata keys. - Methods explained (the built-in methodologies, then examples of your own): Karpathy LLM wiki https://notespace.sh/methods/karpathy-llm-wiki, PARA https://notespace.sh/methods/para, Zettelkasten https://notespace.sh/methods/zettelkasten, Dan Koe's idea museum https://notespace.sh/methods/dan-koe-idea-museum
